Although, land area of the India is 2.5%, it accounts for 7-8% of total recorded species in the world, which makes it one of the 12-mega biodiversity countries of the world. Now, biological diversity means the variability among living organisms from all sources and the ecological complexes of which they are part and includes diversity within species or between species and of eco-systems. Now for managing this biodiversity, an act was created by the name of "The Biological Diversity Act, 2002".
